Hey Y'all!
First, I wanted to thank everyone who showed up to our joint general body meeting last night with the Asian-American Student Association. It was a lively discussion that we hope will spawn other similar discussions as we approach November.
Secondly, since Tuesday is such an important day for Rhode Island Politics, I thought I would list two of the great events happening around the Ocean State leading up to the primary!
Friday Night (Tonight)
Chelsea Clinton will be at Viva/Paragon (234 Thayer Street) tonight for a "Hillary Hour" event. Doors open at 7:30, event starts at 8PM and there will be a cash bar.
Saturday
Senator Obama will be speaking at the Rhode Island College Recreation Center (600 Mount Pleasant Avenue in Providence). Doors open at NOON with the senator arriving soon after.
In addition, Blue State Coffee is holding a mock election until 11PM TONIGHT AND on March 4, if you come to Blue State wearing an “I Voted Sticker,” you’ll get a FREE cup of coffee! Who says democracy doesn’t pay!
Finally, if you are unsure of where you are supposed to vote, please visit the secretary of state’s website: http://www.sec.state.ri.us/vic/
This will give you all of the information about Tuesday that you will need!
Keep checking the blog for more information as we will try to post news and events as soon as we hear about it!

Exciting Events
Hey Dems,
My apologies for not have written everyone a post last week, so I'll try to make up for it by telling you about a very exciting event this week. First, we will be doing some voter registration in the Bear's Lair at 8:00 tonight. Hopefully, if you haven't already registered, you will go and do it now - it is really easy, and so important!
Now here is the really exciting and usual event - Thursday night at 8:00, our usual time, we will be having a joint meeting with the Asian-American Students Association discussing Asian Americans' role in modern politics. The meeting will certainly be fascinating and will include media clips, panelists, and discussion. I hope all of you will be able to make it.
As a final point, this coming Tuesday, March 4th, will be a very big day for RI Democrats; for the first time in a long time, our little Ocean State will matter in the primary elections. Even though we on the board are split about who we support, we all agree on one thing: EVERYONE should vote! Make sure you vote for your favorite candidate.
Until we have another batch of exciting events to tell you about,
Your Brown Dems Board

Another Week, Another Blog
Hey Dems,
We wanted to thank everyone who came out to our first general meeting this past Thursday – it was great to see many new faces and to hear about what everyone would like to see happen this semester. And thank you to those who came out and helped us clean out the office; it was a mess, but it is looking pretty good now.
Anyway, a word about next week. This coming Thursday at 8:00, in Solomon 202, we will be having another general body meeting. We will discuss potential lobbying opportunities with specific progressive groups, which should be interesting, and talking about “Get Out the Vote” operations on March 4th (The RI primary).
On a final note, we want to mourn the passing of Representative Tom Lantos (D-CA) today. The only Holocaust survivor serving in the U.S. Congress, Rep. Lantos served with distinction, as Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, and the founder of the Congressional Human Rights Caucus. His life story and resilience is an inspiration to us all.
Hope to see you Thursday,

Super Tuesday and More!!
Hey Dems!!
I just wanted to start the second entry by letting you know how the debate party went. We had a great turnout, with lots of Hillary and Obama supporters--as well as a healthy amount of undecided dems--drinking soda and eating pizza while enjoying what we all felt was a great debate. It was great to see a debate that really focused on the policies, and to see our favorite candidates acting like friends again.
Okay, so enough with the debate party, what are we doing next?
Tommorow is a big day for the Dems...
First, we have the midyear activities fair, from 7-9. We know there will be a lot of fun booths to visit, but definitely stop by the Brown Dems station to talk to us and see about our plans for the year.
But that's not all. At 8:00 the Janus Forum will be hosting the Tsunami Tuesday Presidential Primary results watching party. Tons of groups will be showing up to support their party and favorite candidates, and the Dems are no exception. This is going to be alot of fun, and a really important day in the presidential race. Join us to see how it all unfolds.
Also this coming week, we will be hosting OUR FIRST MEETING OF THE SEMESTER. We will be talking about our agenda for the semester, fun ideas and activities, and we definitely want to hear your input. The meeting will take place at 7 p.m., and we have a new meeting place, Solomon 202. So come and join us for an exciting first meeting.
We know it's a busy week, and we can't wait to see you all.
